Off The Grid Organic Winery

Nestled between the two houses of the Paynter brothers, Off the Grid Organic Winery is the natural evolution of this family’s 100 years and five generations of farming in Westbank.  With sustainability at the forefront of their practice, the family is excited to welcome you to their property.

Originally from Alnwick, England the Paynters emigrated to Canada in 1909. The patriarch, Edwin Paynter, had trained as a lawyer in England but came to Canada with farming intentions. The original lot purchased by Edwin Paynter from Walter D’Aeth ran from Butt Road down to Powers Creek. In total it was 80 acres.

With the outbreak of World War 1, Edwin returned to England for the duration of the war. After the war ended, he and his wife Margaret returned in 1919 and started to farm the land. Edwin had a total of 7 children; 6 of whom split the Westbank property, and one daughter who lived in East Kelowna.

Off the Grid Organic Winery is proudly owned and operated by Travis & Sheri Paynter and Nigel & Hayley Paynter. Great Grandsons of Edwin Paynter.

When you come to visit OTG, you’ll notice the experience is like no other. You’ll be greeted by our friendly winery goats, enjoy unobstructed views of Okanagan Lake, experience your wine tasting in a fully sustainable, off the grid, building.
