The Perch Winery
The Perch Winery is a small, family-run, family-friendly 10 acre farm including 5.5 acres of estate vineyards, a cozy tasting room, a winery manufacturing space and two casual outdoor picnic areas with panoramic lake views, located in Vernon BC. We focus on having fun, working hard and crafting premium quality wines made from sustainably grown, modern, predominately disease resistant grapevines.
The Perch Winery offers a selection of amazing, flavourful and aromatic rare grape varieties and Pinot Noir 777 for you to enjoy. The Picnic areas are bordered by vineyards, where you’ll be able to sit with a glass of wine, while breathing fresh air and watching a variety of birds hunting, foraging or just perching, soaking up the sun with you.
Grapevine breeding and development have taken leaps and bounds in the past few decades. Institutions, such as the University of Minnesota, University of California – Davis, Cornell University, Geilweilerhof Institute in Germany, Valentin Blattner etc. all have dedicated programs to identify, cross-breed and test superior grapevine qualities.
Through natural breeding / pollination (not GMO), they successfully combine properties, such as disease resistance, cold hardiness, premium flavors and aromas, tannin structure, color etc. into singular superior vines. The majority of the vines at The Perch Winery along our 5.5 acres of estate vines, with the exception of Pinot Noir 777, have been carefully selected from these advanced grape varieties,allowing us to greatly reduce or eliminate the need for conventional pesticide sprays!
However, during atypical conditions, if we need to control any pests, we try to use certified organic products. We feel that fewer sprays, along with responsible viticulture practices, is safer and best showcases the true terroir and grape characteristics in each and every bottle of wine we craft. We spend a lot of time in the vineyards, along with an abundance of the wildlife, so having fresh air to breath and clean soil to work in is critical for us, the wildlife and our grapevines.
